How digital tooth preparation design works
Designing the preparation digitally turns an intraoperative judgement into a plan. Starting from the diagnostic wax-up or the planned final restoration, we work backwards: the required material thickness defines how much reduction each surface needs, and the preparation is drawn to deliver exactly that — no more.
Taper, margin design and finish line position are set consistently around the tooth, and the resulting preparation is checked for undercuts against the insertion axis of the definitive restoration.
The output can be used as a reduction guide, as a teaching and case-planning reference, or as the starting geometry for a pre-planned restoration, so chairside reduction follows a measured target instead of an estimate.
